Family Choir sings three Sundays per month at the 10 am Eucharist.
A warm-up/brush-up is held at 9:30 am, and a one-hour rehearsal
is held, following the Eucharist, at 11:30 am. Although singers
are not required to be able to read music, they must have a good
ear and be able to learn music quickly. The music that Family
Choir sings is intended to be accessible to everyone: not too
difficult, and yet effectively inspirational.
St. Cecilia is known as the patron saint of music. The St. Cecilia
Singers, who sing on the last Sunday of each month, September
through June, (plus Christmas Eve and Easter) specialize in singing
the big guns, i.e. music from the standard choral repertory.
Their music is more difficult and vocally demanding than that
of the Family Choir, and singers must be able to read music and
be able to learn their music on their own. Rehearsals are held
at 9:15 am on the Sunday that the St. Cecilia Singers are singing
in church, followed by the 10 am Eucharist, followed by a rehearsal
at 11:30 am for upcoming months services.
Future plans for music at St.Thomas include a Mens Choir that
will sing twice a year, and the revival of Cherub Choir, made
up of children grades 3 7. Children in grades 7 and above are
welcome to sing in Family Choir. |
