In
addition, St. Thomas Church sponsors 12 Community Dinners
throughout the year. Dinners are free and are held the second
Saturday of each month. Everyone is welcome. One or more
parishioners take on the responsibility of shopping and preparing
the meal. Other parish volunteers assist in set up, serving, visiting
with our guests and clean up. Dinner is served at 5:30pm.
St.
Thomas Church is host to the Open Arms Shelter for Homeless Men
one Saturday a month. Help is always needed to set up cots for the
men and to provide a small snack during their overnight stay.
The guests sleep in our Parish Hall on scheduled
dates and as the need arises.
The
Outreach Committee coordinates Christmas Gifts for
several needy individuals (seniors, youth and families) who
otherwise would receive little if anything for Christmas.
The
Pumpkin Patch Project at St. Thomas, co-sponsored by
St. John's Episcopal Church,
Larchmont, Trinity/St. Paul Episcopal Church,
New Rochelle, and All Saints Episcopal Church, Harrison provides an opportunity to enjoy fellowship and the spirit
of cooperation as thousands of pumpkins are delivered, unloaded
and sold on our front lawn. Local charities benefit from the
proceeds of this event.
Our
Thrift Shop is open Wednesdays 11AM - 3PM and Saturdays 10AM -
1PM. The Thrift
Ship is closed the month of August. We are
accepting donations
of small household items and clothing
in good or excellent condition as well as books
(particularly novels and children's books) during Thrift Shop hours.
To reach the Thrift Shop by telephone you can call 914-777-3408.
Volunteers meet every Tuesday
at 10AM in the Parish Hall and
Kitchen for the Brown Bag Lunch Program / Food
Pantry to prepare a simple brown bag lunch. Anyone is
welcome to come to the Heathcote Hall entrance of the Parish
Building (168 W. Boston Post Road) to pick up a lunch bag between
11AM-12 noon on Tuesdays. Clients can also select groceries that
will provide at least 2 additional meals.
Inreach
Committee
The
members of this committee respond to the needs of our parish
family. This may include: preparing or arranging meals for the
housebound or for a family in temporary need due to some hardship;
transporting folks to doctor's appointments; a phone call from
time to time to the lonely; sending cards; etc. This is the ministry
for those who have busy schedules and cannot commit a lot of time
on a regular basis. Volunteers are always welcome.
Volunteers from the Community are always welcome to work with
our parishioners in any of the above service ministries. Please
contact Deacon Lynn Werdal at
lwerdal@aol.com or 914-698-0300 (you can leave a message).
